By The Waves – ‘Eyes’ Single Review

By The Waves are a Manchester based band bringing a sun-drenched soulful take to the indie scenes. Beginning as a band only last summer, the band has already garnered a local following for themselves with a number of successful gigs and two previous single releases. Looking to continue this fine run of momentum, By The Waves have recently released their third single ‘Eyes’.

With their new single ‘Eyes’, By The Waves have managed to inexplicably bottle up that magic feeling of nostalgia; the entire sound of the track oozes with the feelings of past memories that haven’t even been experienced. Exploring the incredibly human ideas of love, greed, and guilt, By The Waves have not shown any signs of slowing down on their journey of releases so far.

Lead by a tastefully punchy rhythm section, the verses are paired beautifully with a more dream-pop sounding chorus giving the song the lift it needed by filling out the sound in the chorus. While the sound can get slightly repetitive by the end of the track, this could actually add to the hypnotic feel of the entire song, and it doesn’t take away from the fact that this is an incredibly ‘vibey’ track which definitely conjures up ideas of sunset backdropped road trips and ‘arms-out-the-window’ dance sessions.

Ultimately ‘Eyes’ comes together brilliantly, nailing that certain type of indie music that one could have found in the glory days of FIFA’s once famous soundtracks. I can see this track staying with my listening habits for a while, it’s certainly one to check out.
