Bayboards are an exciting four-piece indie band focussed in and around the Manchester scenes. Making a name for themselves through the success of their electric live performances at famous venues such as Band On The Wall, Academy 3 and their upcoming Academy 2 show, Bayboards already have an incredibly loyal following of music-mad indie kids. Continuing their run of releases in 2024 the band have now recently released their latest single ‘How I Wish I Was Cool’ in mid-June.
I think it’s fair to say that with ‘How I Wish I Was Cool’ Bayboards are back to their best, while their last single ‘Does It Get You Down’ obviously isn’t a bad song I didn’t think it was quite up to the standards that Bayboards have set thus far as a band. However, this single is definitely a step in the right direction towards the sonic highs that we all know this band can achieve.

With a driving drum track and soaring guitar riffs to accompany the charismatic vocals from front man Ben Coley, ‘How I Wish I Was Cool’ feels like an emotional outpour pleading to the world, portraying exactly what the band intended with this song – a meaningful look into those feelings of irrelevancy and the need for acceptance.
Bayboards are a band that thrive on stage, so while I feel like I can never judge their music properly until I’ve heard it live, I certainly think this new single is a positive sign for things to come from this band. Dealing with multiple recent roster changes, Bayboards are seemingly unperturbed as they show no sign of slowing down in their pursuit of greatness. If you’re an indie fan and haven’t heard Bayboards music yet, you probably should – go check them out.
