ARTEMIS – ‘The Waves’ Single Review

Establishing himself in the alternative music scene of Manchester ‘ARTEMIS’ is the musical outlet and project for Josh Olivia. Each song so far providing a snapshot into the emotions and the experiences of Josh with “passionate and intimate lyricism that hides amongst driven guitar led instrumentals”. Building on the powerful and original sound that has already been crafted by Josh ‘The Waves’ strives to adapt this sound as the “inspiration and creative process behind each song changes”.

Harking from a time of adolescence in Josh’s life the track started out as a “reflective poem” from his teenage years. ‘The Waves’ takes inspiration from “the local scenery near [his] home area in Suffolk” as it manages to continue the sound ‘ARTEMIS’ has already built, whilst delivering lyrics that are packed full of the emotionality that their poetic origin brings to the track.

While the verses explore those oh-so-familiar feelings that accompany teenagehood and how they, at times, “seem to go on forever”, the chorus brings a feeling of hope to contrast the verses. This brings an oxymoronic melancholic happiness that works tremendously and manages to add to the essence and experience of the track while remaining open to the listeners interpretation.
